Disputing a Payment Default

Find out when to contact the creditor, how to submit a dispute form, and what supporting documents are required.

Updated this week

If a payment default has been registered against your business and you believe it is incorrect, you can raise a dispute.

A dispute will only be reviewed by CreditorWatch if it was raised with the listing entity before the payment default was registered.

Step 1: Contact the Creditor

If the default relates to a credit facility you have or applied for, contact the creditor directly.

  • You may ask them to review the listing.

  • If the creditor accepts the dispute, they can request that your business credit profile be updated.

Step 2: Contact CreditorWatch

CreditorWatch can only investigate if the debt was already in dispute prior to the registration of the payment default.

Acceptable dispute reasons

  • Incorrect pricing or quantity of goods/services

  • Discrepancies between the invoice and the purchase order or contract

  • Late or missing deliveries

  • Quality concerns with goods or services

  • Unauthorised charges or additional fees

  • Disagreements over payment terms

  • Other similar issues

How to Submit a Payment Default Dispute

1. Submit your dispute

  • Complete the payment default dispute form here.

  • Have your supporting documents ready. We will request these via email once we begin reviewing your case.

  • Provide correspondence sent to the creditor before the default was registered. This must clearly outline the reason for your dispute.

  • Supporting documents must be directly relevant. Key details should be highlighted or referenced (page numbers, sections, or clauses).

Large volumes of unreferenced documents may not be reviewed. Missing or unclear references may delay the process.

2. CreditorWatch review

  • Once your form is received, we will confirm in writing.

  • Our Customer Resolutions team will review your case within 30 days.

  • If additional time is required, we will notify you and request an extension.

3. Contacting the creditor

  • If needed, CreditorWatch will contact the creditor to verify the listing.

  • We will review the creditor’s response and amend your business credit profile if necessary.

  • If the listing is valid, it will remain unchanged.

4. Final outcome

  • Once the review is complete, we will provide you with a written outcome.

  • If the dispute cannot be validated, we will explain why a correction was not made.

All dispute outcomes determined by CreditorWatch are final and not subject to further review.
